The "Epsilon Rho Scholarship Fund" is an annual philanthropic event sponsored by the Epsilon Rho chapter of Phi Mu Alpha, and organized by a scholarship committee. The aims of this event is to provide a musicianly man the means to continue his pursuit of studying music. The hope is that the recipient will use the award to help further progress music in America. The award is in the form of a $1,000 scholarship written out to NIU to help pay the student's tuition cost for a full school year.

The scholarship can be applied for by following the directives on the Application web page, which can be located by clicking the link titled "Scholarship Application" in the upper left hand corner of this page. Applicants will be selected, based upon their entries, to participate in video recorded interviews. The scholarship committee will then review the interviews and select candidates to present to the chapter for final selection. The scholarship process has been made to be objective and the scholarship will be awarded to the man best suited for it based on their character and contribution to music. Candidates will not be subject to judgment based on popularity or affiliation with members of Phi Mu Alpha.

Funds for this scholarship are made possible through fundraisers and alumni donations. Our current goal is to supply these scholarships to one person per year for at least the next five years, with hopes that the scholarship will grow and be able to provide a higher award or possibly multiple awards.

Current requirements for eligibility are as follows. The applying student must:

  • Be a male with with great character, intelligence, and moral composure
  • Be a 1st or 2nd year undergraduate enrolled at the NIU School of Music
  • Have an established GPA of at least 3.0
  • Not be a member of Phi Mu Alpha

Note to Alumni: We are still looking for more donations to help make our hopes and goals a reality. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated and all contributions will be made anonymously. If interested in more details please contact one of the Chapter officers or the Scholarship committee chairman.
